Kuala Lumpur was one of the few places in Malaysia we visited during our first trip to South East Asia! We quickly fell in love with its beautiful outdoor food and shopping markets, shawarma, and culture! Here were our favourite things to do in Kuala Lumpur!
1. Batu Caves
The Batu Caves is a popular cave temple to visit and is completely free. You can take the monorail straight there from the city. Lots of birds flying and monkeys wandering around for you to see. Watch your stuff around the monkeys! If your knees aren’t covered you’ll get a sarong. We highly recommend you visit the dark caves where you can join in on an educational tour to see some cave wildlife for RM35 (which is what we did), or you can do the adventure tour for RM80. You do not need to book this ahead of time.
2. Petronas Towers
You definitely won’t miss these. If you get a chance, check them out at night. Also attached to the Petronas Towers is the Suria KLCC mall (a 6 story mall) that you can check out.
3. Petaling Street
This is the market in Chinatown of Kuala Lumpur. Whether you need something, want a souvenir, or looking for a bite to eat, check this market out.
4. Central Market and Kasturi Walk
With a lot of handmade goods and art pieces Central market is a great place to visit in Chinatown. It also has some places you can sit down and have something to eat. Kasturi Walk is just outside where you can purchase fake goods and souvenirs. They also have half decent prices for Elephant Pants!!
5. Sri Maha Mariamman Temple
This is a lovely Hindu temple in Chinatown. Keep your eye open, even though the entrance is big, beautiful, and colourful, somehow we walked past it our first time by. You’ll have to leave your shoes at the front, and entrance is free. If your lucky enough, as we were on our visit, you’ll get to see a ceremony.
6. KL Forest Eco Park
Located near the KL Tower is a rain forested area within the city with trails and canopy walk bridges in the trees. Entrance was free and there was barely anyone there. Not much wildlife as it is in the middle of the city, but we had a blast.
7. Jalan Alor
One evening we were wandering around the Bukit Bintang area and stumbled upon this food market. We loved it and its also in a great area for you to wander around and enjoy the city. Check out the rest of the Bukit Bintang area while you’re here!
8. Check Out Other Night Markets
On a Saturday night go check out Kampung Baru market, on a Wednesday night go to Taman Connaught market, and on a Thursday head over to OUG night market.
